Artist Best Practices
Your artwork image is what potential buyers see – they decide to buy based on the image. Therefore, it must represent your art accurately and showcase your art's true beauty. Buyers have a right to know what they are getting into. By following these steps, you can capture and edit images that accurately represent the beauty of your artwork for potential buyers.
- Setup: Place your stretched artwork upright against a wall or on a clean, well-lit surface. Ensure your camera is parallel to the artwork and shoot in bright, soft light.
- Avoid Flash: Ensure the camera flash isn't visible in the image, as it can obscure the artwork.
- Editing: Keep edits simple and close to the original.
- Image Specifications: The image should be at least 2000 x 2000 pixels and 200dpi for a good visual experience. Crop out any edges and exclude frames, mount and backgrounds from paintings.
Please adhere to these guidelines while shooting and editing. Artworks that do not meet these criteria may be rejected.
Accurate pricing is important. Please bear in mind that the price will directly impact the sale of artworks.
- Fair Pricing: Fair Pricing is a promise we make - to artists as well as collectors.
- We would like to remind artists that Aarts Maestro does not charge commissions - fair pricing enables artists to make fair gains and allow collectors to buy art at reasonable prices.
- Fair Pricing is mandatory: AArtists are advised to ensure their artwork is priced fairly. Our expert evaluation team reviews artwork prices. If you are advised to re-evaluate the prices affixed on your artworks, we encourage you to do so. Aarts Maestro retains the right to reject overpriced artworks.
- Compare: Before setting a price for your artwork, compare it with the price fetched by similar works - ex, style, medium, dimensions and so on. While doing so, check for final sold prices, not the asking price of the artist. Do not underprice and most certainly do not overprice.
- Your Experience as an artist: This counts - never underestimate it. Collectors are especially sensitive to overpriced amateur | emerging artists.
- Previous Track record of sale: This is an important indicator. Always benchmark your artwork price to your previous high. Example, if your last sold work was at Rs. 10,000, please do not price a similar sized work at 50,000! The idea is not a one-time sale but to build a loyal clientele.
- Factor in Costs: Consider the cost of materials and the time you spent creating the artwork. Price your art above this, but compare with market rates first.
- Consistency is the key: Keep your pricing consistent across your collection. Collectors should understand why each piece is priced as it is. Consistent pricing enables sales.
- No Commission Platform: Collectors are aware that Aarts Maestro is a NO COMMISSION platform for artists - hence they expect direct sale pricing, without added commissions, GST Etc. Shipping is always extra.
- Complete your profile: Please furnish details of your experience as an artist - exhibitions participated in, collectors & institutions who have purchased your art, awards, recognitions, qualifications (if you are a trained artist). If self-taught, do mention that too.
- Define yourself correctly: If you have no previous sale history, please call yourself an emerging artist | amateur. Collectors appreciate honesty and are happy to support emerging artists, if they like your work. Often, we notice collectors go out of their way to support emerging artists.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure your artwork is priced fairly and attractively for potential collectors. Our curatorial and pricing team may offer pricing advice and we reserve the right to reject artwork if it's priced incorrectly.
