Guidelines & Requirements
- General Rules
- This is a global online bird photography competition.
- All entries must be submitted online via the Aarts Maestro platform only.
- Entries must strictly adhere to the competition theme: “Pakshi”.
- Eligibility
Open to amateur and professional photographers aged 16 years and above as of the registration date.
- Registration Fee
The registration fee is non-refundable.
- Theme
The competition theme is “Pakshi”. More details are available under the theme tab.
- Number of Entries
Each participant must submit 4 entries, adhering to the theme. Failure to submit the requisite number of entries will result in lower scores.
- Captions
All entries must be captioned. Captions such as “Not Applicable,” “Untitled,” or “Unknown” will be disqualified.
- Editing Rules
- Basic editing (brightness, contrast, tone, and minor color corrections) is allowed.
- No major alterations such as object removal, addition, or reversal.
- Removing sensor dust or scratches on scanned negatives is permitted.
- Original EXIF files may be requested for verification.
- No Manipulations
The photos should not be manipulated to alter the visual content. Adding or removing elements using software will lead to disqualification.
- File Format
- Accepted formats: JPEG / JPG only.
- Minimum resolution: 2000 pixels on the longest edge (no upper limit).
- File size: Between 2MB and 5MB (300 DPI).
- No watermarks, borders, or logos on images.
- Submission Deadline
All entries must be submitted before the deadline. Participants are advised not to wait until the last minute to submit entries. Once submitted, no changes will be allowed.
- Plagiarism, Copyright & Ownership
Plagiarism is strictly prohibited and will lead to instant disqualification. Participants must have full copyright ownership of submitted images. Plagiarized or stolen content will be disqualified.
- Mobile / Drone Photography
Mobile or Drone photography is not allowed.
- No Logos or Watermarks
Submitted images must not contain signatures, logos, or watermarks. Such entries will be disqualified.

- All communication will be via Aarts Maestro Inbox, email, and WhatsApp. Ensure accurate contact details are provided during registration.
- Participants are strongly advised to check their email and WhatsApp regularly to avoid missing important updates.

- Appropriate Content
Photos that depict violence, inappropriate content, or violations of animal/human rights will be disqualified. Nesting Shots of Birds and Birds in captivity - Zoo, Pets, Circus, performing birds, etc not allowed.
- Additional Verification
- RAW files in specified formats.
- Unaltered EXIF data.
- A personal interview (audio/video) with the jury panel.
- Jury Decision
The decision of the jury and judges is final and binding on all participants.
- Fraud Prevention
Shortlisted participants must provide government-approved identity proof. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.
- Prize Distribution
Winners must have an Indian bank account to receive cash prizes. Additional banking requirements may apply. Indian tax rules as applicable for cash prizes.

The NTPC Pakshi Awards is an initiative to showcase the splendor of Bharat’s birds and their habitats! Whether it’s the iconic Indian Peafowl (the national bird), unique native species, migratory birds, or endangered species like vultures and bustards, India is an avian photographer’s paradise.

Submission Categories
Participants are encouraged to submit photographs capturing the following aspects:

| Behavioral Moments | Capture birds in action—feeding, building nests, mating displays, courtship rituals, and unique behaviors specific to species. |
| Flight and Motion | Freeze the dynamic movements of birds in flight, showcasing their agility, grace, and freedom in the sky. |
| Close-ups | Highlight intricate details such as feathers, eyes, beaks, wings, and unique bird features in close-up shots. |
| Birds in Habitat | Show birds within their natural environments—forests, wetlands, mountains, urban landscapes—demonstrating habitat diversity. |
| Bird Portrait Pictures | Capture a complete and well-framed portrait of a bird. |
Note: Nesting pictures are not allowed and will be disqualified. However, photographs of birds building nests are permitted.
Jury Information
The Photo Competition is juried by an expert Jury Panel, consisting of reputed photographers and teachers of the craft. This will enable photographers to gain invaluable insights on how to improve and enhance their skills, while also gaining valuable exposure.
To maintain the sanctity of the competition and the jury process, the names of our expert jury panel will be made public just a week before the competition results are announced.
Judging Criteria
- Composition and Technical Quality: Excellence in composition, framing, focus, exposure, and overall technical execution of the photograph.
- Creativity and Originality: Innovative perspectives, artistic vision, and unique approaches in capturing birds and their behaviors.
- Emotional Impact: The ability of the photograph to evoke emotions, create connections, and convey the beauty and wonder of avian life.
- Environmental Context: How well the photograph showcases birds within their natural habitats, adding depth and context to the image.
- Overall Impression: The overall aesthetic appeal of the photograph, including storytelling and visual impact.
- Diversified Portfolio: Special jury emphasis will be placed on a diversified portfolio representing multiple categories as mentioned under the theme.
Jury Panel & Public Voting
The final result will be determined through a combination of Jury Panel evaluations and public votes in a predefined ratio.
